13. What does Chillingworth mean when he says to Hester, "We have wronged each other"?
Chillingworth tells Hester "We have wronged each other" because he knows that he did the first mistake of marrying a beautiful and young woman knowing that he was ugly and old. Chillingworth will not look for vengeance or do any evil to her because the scale is equal between them after all.
